Engagement ring?

I have been looking at this engagement ring for some time and I think this is what i would like. I love this style and shape and I have showed a couple of my friends the ring and they think I shouldnt get that style. They keep telling me the bottom half of the band will be damaged very quickly and its a waste of diamonds. But I love it! I am wanting to show it to my boyfriend so he can get an idea of they style I like, cuz he asked me on a couple occasions but try talking "radiant cut and pave diamonds" to a man...pointless. So I was going to show him this picture so he can get a clue about the style. I enclosed a link so everyone can see and give their opinion on the ring and having the diamonds all the way around the band. Please disregard the size, cuz obviously it wont be that large, just take into account the style thanks. When you pull up the link, click on the Three sided princess ring and its the very top ring style (out of the three that are shown) http://www.michaelbjewelry.com/collection_princess_new.html

  1. i think you should have the ring that is a style you like. it doesn't matter if your friends like it. however, i do think they have some valid points. diamonds on the underside of your ring won't be seen and they are prone to more wear and tear. the prongs are more likely to become loose and you could lose some stones before you even notice it. consider the same style that only has diamonds partially around the band for the engagement and wedding ring. this will allow you to buy nicer quality diamonds and bigger stones for the same price since there are fewer stones. also, eternity bands (rings with diamonds all the way around) can't be resized. so, if it is slightly big, you will have to try to go down a complete size. or if you ever gain weight (during pregnancy, etc) you will have to get a different ring or stop wearing yours until you get your weight back under control. check this ring out from the sides and with the matching band. it's tiffany's but any jewelry would carry a similar style. http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?sku=22128922
  2. well i guess that all depends on what type of job you are going to be doing after marriage.do u expect to have children?stay at home and be a housewife?if u answered yes to these 2 questions then no i wouldn't recommend this type.if you're working with your hands alot then again no,but if you dont plan to do any of these then go for it.just think about your answers before you show this to your boyfriend ok?! i agree with shauna:)
  3. If you like the ring, that's all that matters. I personally don't care for the ring because I'm not into all those diamonds.
  4. Beautiful choice. But like your friends, I think it will be impractical in the long run. Diamonds scratch things, and there is a superstition about removing your wedding ring-- if you take it off, you and your spouse will be unlucky. A lot of gals are choosing those pave bands, but I think you ought to chat with someone who has worn one for over a year. I wear a plain band, and my engagement ring (NOT my wedding ring)comes off if I'm doing anything messy--like gardening, cooking, diapers, etc.
  5. It's beautiful. I think you should get it!
  6. Very flashy. If that's the ring you like and your fiance can afford it, I don't see why not. But, your friends do kind of have a point, especially if you do a lot of work with your hands - gardening, art teacher, or other things that will cause your ring to get beat up. I'd also think wearing it would get annoying, because it would be scratchy, but that's just my opinion.
  7. It is very pretty. But honestly, I think the man should pick out the ring. It is his gift to you. A token of his love and promise to marry you. Its not a fashion statement to show to your friends.
  8. It's nice, but my only concern would be the diamonds around the part that goes on your finger, wouldn't they rub and aggravate your finger? I had a ring with some raised letters that I had to return for the same reason.
  9. Hi. That is very pretty. I love the style, etc. However, have you ever tried on a ring with diamonds all the way around? I don't know how comfortable or uncomfortable that would be. I think it would bother me. Also, I must agree with your friends....I see it as a waste of diamonds to be all the way around...no one can see the underside of your ring. My daughter-in-law has something similar, but with the diamonds just about 3 or 4 on each side of the big diamond...not all the way around. BUT....IT'S YOUR RING not mine! You are the one that needs to be happy and comfortable with it...not anyone else. IT IS VERY PRETTY!
  10. I wanted an eternity band as a wedding band to go with my engagement ring, and then I realized how scratched the underside on my new engagement ring became after a short while. The I realized that all of those pretty diamonds on the underside would be scratched and chiped after a couple years....(diamonds DO scratch and chip...) Also consider that one day, you might have children, and that ring could easily scratch delicate skin while washing a baby. If it were me in love with that look, I would go with a semi eternity band.... And I would let my man pick out the ring...since its his gift to me.....(since you ask...suprises are very nice too...)
  11. Sorry, I don't like that at all - let alone the square cut, but especially not having diamonds all the way around. This one is at least a bit better - the top one http://www.michaelbjewelry.com/collection_lace_new.html
  12. You should let your fiance pick out your ring and surprise you. It will be more sentimental.
