Is my ring real?

I bought my diamond engagement ring from aafes (military base) and there was another ring with an identical setting. Both rings were the same price, both were the same color, clairty (I, I1) and both were stamped with .70cts inside the band. My center stone was nealry a 1/4 carat larger and did not come with a certificate. They were puzzled why one was larger but the same price and rating. Plus, the description did not even really match my ring. It said no side stones but there are 30 pave stones. I paid 3k for it and took it to a jeweler to have it appraised. It was rated .94 cts, vvs2, g color worth 9k. what is going on? I asked if the jeweler and employeesif they were sure it wasn't moissanite, they said no but I don't know. I have been reading about Moissanite and my ring does have a rainbow when in teh light during certain movements. I am really confused! Any help would be appreciated! Either it is fake or someone made a huge mistke that I am reaping the benefits for. HELP!!!

  1. Oh well, I think it's not real. If it would be real then it could at least have a certificate.
  2. If a second Jeweler said it was diamond then it was ..... If anything I'd say it was a mistake from the point of sale team... Real diamonds have a rainbow effect as well. If you really want to know take it to another independent person but make sure they keep the ring in front of you. Because if it is a diamond it wont be for much longer if they go around the back....
  3. If you took it to a jewellers and they appriased it at .94 cts and work $9k - what is the problem?? If you like it, it looks good, and you are comfortable wearing it, and you have the valuation, whats the problem??
  4. if you already had it appraised than it is what it is. BTW i also got my engagement ring from them... Plus appraisals are always higher than what theya re worth
  5. Be happy, happened to my mom when her brother bought her an emerald, she went to have it sized and the jewler told her it was a perfect emerald who knew go get it insured, you will be glad you did, im sure it is a beautiful ring
  6. Sounds like someone put the wrong ring in that spot, and since you took it to a jewler and he appraised it at 9k, you are one lucky girl. The jewler would have known if the stone was not a diamond.
  7. You probably have a real stone A common misconception among buyers is that if the appraisal is way higher than the purchase price then they got an awesome deal. The diamond industry has put this ridiculous appraisal process in place that is used for making a buyer happy with their purchase. If you sold the ring, you would be very lucky to get what you paid for it. If you lost the ring (and had it insured), the insurance will not pay you 9k (just the 3k that you paid). I'm not trying to make you feel bad about your purchase. Every other engaged / married couple on the planet is in the same situation. Debeers did a very good job at marketing diamonds
  8. honestly...someone made a huge mistake that you are reaping the benefits for. oh, and CONGRATS!!! on being engaged. I do not believe that you have a fake ring but rather miss categorized it. hope i helped in one way or another..
  9. an 8 gram platinum ring with .07 diamond should retail for close to $2,000. unusual to have the stone size marked inside the band
  10. Looks like you have it verified by two good sources. The jeweler (if he/she is respectable) and AAFES, a company that is allowed to sell on military establishments. They too, are reputable and would not sell fakes. The ring I got has a certificate, however, just because it doesn't have one doesn't mean that it's not real! June
